Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to Adapt Popular Novel Meet Me at the Lake for Netflix

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have purchased the screen rights to the popular novel “Meet Me at the Lake” to turn it into a film for Netflix. The book, which tells the story of a 30-something woman whose mother dies in a car crash, spent six weeks on The New York Times bestsellers list following its May release.

PR expert Mayah Riaz believes the film could be a major hit for Netflix, potentially even breaking box office records. “Harry and Meghan are no strangers to attracting millions of eyes upon what they do,” Riaz said. “I believe the film could hit record number in the first week at the box office.”

The book is set in Canada, which is where Markle and Harry met while she was filming the hit TV show “Suits.” The novel explores themes of childhood trauma, including losing a parent in a car crash, mental health challenges, and post-natal depression. These themes are likely to resonate with Markle and Harry, who have both spoken openly about their own experiences with loss and mental health.

This is not the first time that Markle and Harry have tried to break into the entertainment industry. In 2020, they signed a $20 million deal with Spotify to produce podcasts, but their only project, “Archetypes,” was not renewed for a second season. They also have a $100 million deal with Netflix, but so far only one project, the documentary series “Harry & Meghan,” has been released.

The adaptation of “Meet Me at the Lake” could be the couple’s most successful production yet. The book is already a hit with readers, and Markle and Harry’s involvement is sure to generate even more interest. If the film is well-received, it could help to revive the couple’s struggling entertainment career.
