Nicolas Cage on his brief cameo as Superman in The Flash I was glad I didn't blink

Nicolas Cage has spoken about his surprise cameo as Superman in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash.

The actor said that it was “satisfying” to finally see the character come to life, although his appearance in the film was brief.

“Well, I was glad I didn’t blink,” Cage said in an interview with USA Today. “For me, it was the feeling of being actualized. Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it’s quick.”

Cage’s cameo in The Flash comes after the 1998 film Superman Lives, in which he was originally set to star, was scrapped. In the film, Cage appears as Superman fighting a giant spider, alongside Christopher Reeve’s Superman, Helen Slater’s Supergirl, Adam West’s Batman, and George Reeve’s Superman.

Cage said that he drew inspiration for his performance in The Flash from his role in the 1998 film City of Angels.

“I was supposed [to play] Clark Kent after that [in Superman Lives], and I was already developing this alien otherness playing this angel,” he said. “That is a perfect example of the tonality you would’ve gotten for Kal-El and for Clark Kent: Clark would’ve been a little more amusing but Kal-El [had] the sensitivity and the goodness and the vulnerability and all those feelings that were kind of angelic and also terrifying.”

Filmmaker Kevin Smith, who wrote several draft screenplays for the scrapped Superman Lives film, also reacted to Cage’s cameo in The Flash.

“I finally got to see Nic Cage be Superman,” Smith told Rolling Stone. “It has been an absolute delight for me.” He added that it was “mind-melting” after seeing the scene.

Cage’s cameo in The Flash has been met with mixed reactions from fans. Some have praised the actor’s performance, while others have criticized its brevity.

Regardless of the reaction, Cage’s cameo in The Flash is a unique and memorable moment in the film. It is a testament to the actor’s commitment to the role and his passion for Superman.
