In a statement on Instagram, Lanez said he has “always maintained my innocence” and will “never never let no jail time eliminate me.” He also said he took responsibility for “all verbal and intimate moments” that he shared with Megan, but not for the shooting itself.

Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday after being convicted of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

He is expected to appeal the sentence and conviction. His legal team said they are “extremely disappointed” with the sentence and called it “another example of someone being punished for their celebrity status.”

Megan Thee Stallion released a statement through the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office after the sentencing, saying she was “grateful” to the DA’s office and the jury for “siding with the truth.” She also said she thinks of “others across the world, or victims of violence, and survivors” every day and that it is “truly the most powerless feeling, especially when you question whether the justice system can truly protect you.”

Megan’s statement also said that Lanez “not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma.” She accused him of lying to anyone who would listen, paying bloggers to spread false information about the case, and releasing music videos and songs to damage her character.

Lanez has denied all of the allegations against him. He is expected to remain in jail until his appeal is heard.
