Hong Kong Singer Coco Lee Dies at 48 After Battle with Depression

Coco Lee, a Hong Kong-born singer and songwriter, has died at the age of 48. She had been suffering from depression for several years, and her condition deteriorated drastically in recent months.

Lee’s sisters, Carol and Nancy Lee, said in a statement that Coco had attempted suicide on Sunday and was in a coma since then. She died on Wednesday at Hong Kong’s Queen Mary Hospital.

“Coco had been suffering from depression for a few years, but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months,” the sisters said. “Although Coco sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her.”

Lee was born in Hong Kong in 1975 and studied in both Hong Kong and the United States. She began her music career in the 1990s and quickly became one of the most popular Mandopop singers in Asia. She released 18 studio albums, two live albums, and five compilation albums, and her songs have been featured in films such as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Mulan.”

Lee was also a successful actress, appearing in films such as “No Tobacco” and “Master of Everything.” She was also a judge on several talent shows, including “Chinese Idol” and “Dancing with the Stars.”

Lee’s death is a tragedy, and her fans are mourning her loss. She was a talented singer and actress who had a bright future ahead of her. Her death is a reminder of the importance of seeking help for mental health problems.
