Elton John Testifies for Kevin Spacey's Defense in Sexual Assault Trial

Elton John testified remotely from Monaco on Monday in the sexual assault trial of Kevin Spacey. John’s husband, David Furnish, had previously testified that Spacey only attended the annual gala the singer held at his Windsor home once, in 2001. However, one of Spacey’s accusers has alleged that Spacey grabbed his crotch while driving with him to the ball in 2004 or 2005.

John’s testimony corroborated Furnish’s, saying that Spacey only attended the event once and that he spent the night at the house after the ball. This contradicts the accuser’s timeline of events, which would have required Spacey to attend the gala twice.

Spacey is facing four charges of sexual assault and one charge of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial is ongoing, and it is unclear when a verdict will be reached.

In addition to the testimony from John and Furnish, Spacey himself took the stand on Thursday. He denied all of the allegations against him and offered his own version of events. He also spoke about how his career had been affected by the allegations, saying that he had been “canceled” and that his life had “exploded.”

The trial is expected to last several more weeks.
